The terror of Ebola swiped the Western
African countries, including Guinea, Liberia, Sierra
Leone and Nigeria. The deadly disease is highly infectious
and the mortality rate reaches 90%. According to the
WHO, over 1,500 deaths were recorded and thousands of
cases confirmed. Heath care workers being infected while
treating patients were not unheard of.
Reportedly the annual medical fee
for a citizen in those countries is USD 40 to 100. It
was resolved to donate US$10,000 via the HKMA Charitable
Foundation (Foundation) to Medecins Sans Frontieres
(MSF) to help curb the Ebola epidemic. Dr. SHIH Tai
Cho, President of the HKMA, Dr. CHOW Pak Chin, Chairman
of the Foundation and Dr. Alvin Y.S. CHAN, Vice-President
HKMA presented the big cheque to Ms.
Laura LEE, Regional Philanthropy Manager, MSF at our
Central Premises on 21 August 2014.
